2020 Pee Dee Shad Roe-deo
Mark your calendar! We’ll be holding the Second Annual Pee Dee Shad Roe-deo presented by Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd on March 28, 2020. The event is held with the assistance of Pee Dee Land Trust.
The inaugural event in 2019 featured shad planked around an open fire, poached shad, and roe with scrambled chicken eggs. Fish House Punch, a favorite of our Founding Fathers, was a real hit. Desserts included George Washington’s favorite currant bread, following a recipe passed down by Mary Washington.
Dr. David Shields from USC, a food historian, spoke about the crucial role shad played in colonial times. Traditional methods of wood carving, blacksmithing, and weaving were demonstrated. A select silent auction included pottery created by Sasha Federer, night sky photography by Christopher Neal, and handcrafted items.
The proceeds from the Pee Dee Shad Roe-deo are used to build platform campsites along the SC Revolutionary Rivers Trail on Lynches Scenic River.
